UO Senate and campus committees--opportunities abound

March 28th, 2011

Before Spring Break all faculty and staff received a phone message from me introducing you to Prof. Robert Kyr as the incoming president of the UO Senate. It was a reminder of the upcoming Senate elections and opportunities to serve on important campus-wide committees.

The University has a long and proud tradition of engagement of faculty, staff and students. Serving on the Senate and/or on one of the many committees is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about what makes this institution work. It is also a great opportunity to meet colleagues and make connections across the campus.

For most committees, the most important qualification is a willingness to learn, to participate, and to engage. A prior understanding of committee scope is helpful but often not required.

I encourage anyone interested visit the committees website at http://committees.uoregon.edu/ or to contact Prof. Kyr or Dave Hubin in my office.
