Celebrating Champions
December 8th, 2010As I trust you know by now, our football team has earned a trip to the BCS Championship game in Glendale, Arizona on January 10, 2011. Congratulations to the players, coaches, and the entire Duck community--not just for this achievement, but for doing it with character and integrity. That is what I am most proud of.
The unprecedented success of the football team is occasion to celebrate excellence across our campus (see our Celebrating Champions page).
Senior Josh Lupton from Joseph, Oregon was recently awarded the Marshall Scholarship. This is the second consecutive year that a UO student has won the prestigious award. Josh's scholarship and intellectual capacity is impressive, but easily surpassed by his kindness. He's the kid you would pick to live next door to you if you had a wild card.
Just last week three UO physicists were chosen as 2010 Fellows by the American Physical Society: Dietrich Belitz, Davison Soper and Steven van Enk. The APS is an academically stingy group that does not bestow such recognitions lightly.
This is a great time to be a Duck. I write to you from NYC where I will be a panelist at a conference. I am meeting with alums and Trustees. I think that I will hang around to support LaMichael James on Saturday at the Heisman awards.
Go Ducks!
