Exceptional students and outstanding academic awards
May 12th, 2010I am delighted, though not surprised, that a number of our students were chosen this year for prestigious academic scholarships. The winners include UO students Lindsey Adkisson (Clinton Fellowship), Korrin Bishop (Carter Internship), Ben Eckstein (Truman Scholarship), Tamela Maciel (Marshall Scholarship), Patricia MacQueen (Goldwater Scholarship) and Robbie McNulty (Hollings Scholarship).
We are proud of all of them and applaud their outstanding achievements. As I mentioned at last month’s distinguished scholar reception, I am equally pleased with how these awards reflect on the quality of effort here at the University of Oregon.
As I talked with these students, I listened to their hopes for the future. I came away impressed by the rigor of their studies in the sciences, public service, business, and communications. Our nation and the world await their leadership.
The University of Oregon is a great institution and much of our greatness is found in our students. An increasing number of our young scholars will win prestigious awards. I have no doubt. It will take hard work and commitment by them and their instructors. But it also will reflect the growing excellence of an already great university.
