A Message of Thanks

November 4th, 2009

Halloween 2009 will be one to remember for most of us. I shared the following information with the UO students this week as a thank you.

It started before dawn for several thousand fans who turned out to show support for the Ducks on ESPN's College GameDay. It included a thrilling football game and an impressive win that was celebrated by nearly 60,000 in Autzen Stadium and millions more around the country who tuned into the broadcast. For many, the revelry continued with a wide array of on-campus programming put on by the hard-working staff in Student Affairs or other activities in the community.

During Halloween night, the vast majority of UO students enjoyed themselves responsibly and respectfully. I commend those of you who made positive decisions. Speculation about what could happen with a full moon, national media attention focused on our community and unseasonably dry weather didn't take into account the caliber of your character and your ability to celebrate with the maturity typical of UO students.

Thank you for representing our university. Good luck on midterms and Go Ducks!
