Glad to be back

December 3rd, 2010

I am very pleased to be back in the office. I dutifully followed my doctor’s and Jan’s orders and stayed home for a couple of weeks. The prostate surgery went beautifully and there is every likelihood that I will be cancer free.

I am touched and buoyed by the people who have expressed good wishes. Thank you. The good wishes of colleagues and friends meant a great deal to me and to Jan. The dozens of delightful, carefully crafted individual cards from the kids at the Vivian Olum Child Development Center are a source of particular delight.

Shortly before my surgery, I was contacted by a group of our MBA students who are involved with the Movember campaign. To raise funds and awareness for men's health issues—like prostate and testicular cancer—Movember participants put down their razor on November 1 and grew a mustache throughout the month.

When they asked me to participate, how could I say no? This year they raised $10,000 for the Prostate Cancer Foundation and Livestrong. I’m proud of them, and was glad to help.

More than anything, I'm glad to be back amongst our students and my colleagues. Thanks to all of you for your good wishes.
