Pomp and circumstance always inspiring
August 21st, 2009The University of Oregon recently conferred more than 1,200 degrees and certificates at summer commencement. The celebration of scholarly pursuits reminds us just how fundamental public institutions – and by extension our students, faculty and staff members – are to our state and nation.
This summer’s commencement ceremony was particularly special for me because it was my first Oregon commencement. It is inspirational to join colleagues in regalia and to usher students through an academic and professional rite of passage.
